And No ....I don't subscribe to all this crap about a coach inspiring average players to play like heroes. If professional footballers actually are professional (in diet, attitude, preparation etc) then there is no need for and very little to be gained by some rent-a-mouth coach ranting and raving in the locker room before a game.

Excuse me for interfering here before I even read half the thread, but I wonder why people doubt that there is a factor called "Motivation" in sports, work, life in general - not only in American Football.

Personally, having been a sportsman for a few years, there is not a hint of a doubt that motivation DOES exist and DOES have an impact on a player's performance. I.e. when I was facing a weaker opponent I did not feel I had to train too hard. Underestimating my opponents would occasionally cause me to do easy mistakes, and so forth.

So MOTY does not sound to me like a ranting coach, but rather like facing an extra-ordinary sporting challenge and preparing (mentally and physically) for it with increased focus.

You are right in saying that "true professionals" should not need to rely on external factors in order to produce their very best. However, you will still hear professionals talk about it all the time..

wow I think this post covered most aspects of life not just the game.

Motivation is always a factor look at every sport there are upsets otherwise there would be no need for bookmakers.

I have had MOTY used on me at least once this season luckily I managed to win 33-3 on Tuesday when it was used and I am only in my first full season.

Maybe you could replace MOTY and introduce a random increase in performance against divisional rivals as thats where most of the extra few percent usually comes from in RL. Look at the local derbies you get in soccer for example.

I think this guys plan was a #1 draft pick and relegation to go away tweak his skills get better players and stomp over the opposition. I can totally understand his drunken rant though most of us have been there in the past.

I think that there are little tweaks that need ironing out but on the whole this is a very good game otherwise we wouldnt bother
