However, what unfolded was a gripping contest between the home team, the Alaskan Fur Trappers, and their visitors.
As the game commenced, the Ruhrpott Miners won the coin toss and opted to receive. The first quarter began with a strong defensive play from Jan Mallet, who remarkably intercepted a pass thrown by Roscoe Miles on their own 31, leading to a 17-yard return. However, the Alaskan Fur Trappers took the lead shortly after with an impressive touchdown by Morgan Burgess, followed by a successful PAT, showcasing their offensive prowess.
As the second quarter unfolded, HansJörg Schneider demonstrated his kicking skills by successfully converting a 39-yard field goal, extending the Trappers' lead. However, the Ruhrpott Miners retaliated through relentless drives, but not without suffering a critical fumble by Cary Werner that was recovered by Gilberto Bertoni.
