I agree wholeheartedly.

Even if someone chose to play spread, they could develop a spread to run team ala Pat White/Steve Slaton era West Virginia.

Very true as well, running QBs would fit spread systems just as good!

I would also envision those plays gaining a bit more yardage than QB sneaks. However I think defenses would have to get wise to QB runs as well if those plays were repeatedly run. (I think a % dropdown would limit abuse of this anyway.)

My qb is averaging 5.3 yrds/run on 7 rushes in league play, just slightly less than my RBs, but with less carry skill, not a bad average. If this were introduced to the game, carry skill should have more weight, IMO.

I'd rather you had the option to just run all the time out of the spread. That way I could play 5-3-3 against you

Isn't the good carry yards of your QB because the QB is using an opening developed by the gameplay, whereas the RB needs the carry to muscle through the defenseline?

That would be an option. We seem to be talking about three separate things in parallel in this thread.

- option
- QB sneak
- QB run (outside run?)

Option and QB sneak aren't in the engine yet while normal QB runs are so imo the first step would be to give us a drop down % choice for QB runs, see how it works, if it's abused etc and then maybe add option and/or sneak.

Are current QB runs actual runs, or just scrambles? The main difference being that a scramble is a passing play gone bad vs.. and intentional running play.

I see no indication that it would be a scramble, the play wording says:

"Q4 7:50 2 and 5 to go on own 34, Ernest Besse (OC) snaps the ball to Hans-Jürgen Sykora (QB), who runs by himself, this seems to be a run over the left end, Helmut Schwab (MLB) goes for the blitz, Nicolas Pellerin (TE/R) blocks, Hans-Jürgen Sykora (QB) tackled by David Matheson (OLB/R), forward progress: 7 yards, New first down (I-formation vs. 4-4-3)"

The Manual says:

On rush plays:
"The crashing sounds of linemans pads leading to a hole where your elusive back streaks down the field avoiding tacklers and cruises for a touchdown! Welcome to the excitement of the rush play. In the rush play a quarterback or running back will try to advance the ball down the field themselves. "

On QBs:
"The Quarterback is the commander of the offensive attack. He takes the ball from the center and either hands off to the running back or passes to the wide receivers or tight ends. Quarterbacks use passing as a primary statistic. There is a slim chance the Quarterback rushes the ball himself."

What makes you think that QB runs would be scrambles as opposed to simply running plays with a different ball carrier?

Because the run play by QB is default by game engine - I would have thought it would be scramble too, until I read the manual you showed us

Only Pete knows for sure but I think either the manual or play description would have an indication of a passing play failing and turning into a running play. Something like "QB selects WR/L but the defense forces him to run by himself" or something in the manual explaining that QB runs are actually failed passing plays. But then again maybe I'm wrong and it is a scramble, I just see more evidence pointing towards it not being a scramble
