A nice line to add would for instance be:

Any quarter - 3rd Down - any Yards to go - any distance to the goalline - any score - any time - I-Formation - Pass - all directions

Or this one:

Any quarter - any Down - 7–10 Yards to go - any distance to the goalline - any score - any time - I-Formation - Pass - all directions

Notice that you give your squad the rule to go for pass on 2nd&10 also. But if you lose 1 Yard on first down (which is not uncommon) and you have 2nd&11, you'll rush again. Same for 3rd&6. So you maybe need more lines to narrow it down to what you want your team to do.

Don't forget to set the according lines for the defensive side of the ball, check for the right order of the plays, book another scrimmage

Nice hints, Chrill. May I add one important thing? If you make changes to the playbook, use the "Check your Playbook" function, ALWAYS!

You can add there a certain situation, and check, if the right row of the playbook is triggered or not.

Also,
You may add a PM sent to every newby team like this.
4. Community is the key.
Go to Forum -> Forums and in the upper left side you will find "Mark all forums read" and click it and wait 3-5 minutes. From now on, when somebody will writte in the forum it will show you 1,2,3,4,5 and after you enter, a green mark will show you on which channel that somebody has written. Feel free to ask, talk, discuss, say hello or anything you wish there.

I am sending this to every new team so they know about the community, because if they don't know where to enter all you write is for the rest of us.

Thanks, Pete, for chiming in. Yes, play checking becomes increasingly significant the more plays you add to your playbook.

Yes, it is. Therefore every participant of this Bootcamp is informed about this very thread.

I wouldn't mind you pointing to this Bootcamp-Thread in your Welcome-PN, though. Maybe a few Newbies would like to participate in future iterations of this, if it turns out to be a format worth reiterating

Since we’ve started the week with the first game-day of the Bootcamp Friendly-Cup at the top I want to address some general things that a new manager will face in the first weeks of being a part of this game. Because we do have managers that just have had their first few official games at the beginning of this very season.

This game is not for the fast and furious. It is instead (sometimes mindnumbingly) slow (something I’m still struggling with because I want to see resolutions fast ). For everything that you do here you need to invest first and foremost one thing: time. You will not get far without educating yourself about the different aspects of this game, and building to a point where you become flexible enough financially that you can think about investing in very good players will take roundabout 2 seasons in RZA / 5–6 months IRL.

Depending on the Region in which you play this can be a very frustrating time, because you get into a league that has (some more, some less) established teams with experienced managers, and that will show. It’d be nice if Newbies would get a chance, maybe by the experienced team playing with their second string team, but don’t forget that they most likely battle for a spot in the Playoffs, too… so they need, too, every win they can get.
Our goal is to stop them winning against you, and maybe sometime be the one to deliver the Losses to them on a regular basis.

The very first thing to see done is maxing out the stadium, as Buziano pointed out in his posting. Take the Mediacenter-Money and use every time-slot in your first or second season when you do not have an official home-game on the schedule for 3 days and build. The stadium will provide the main income for you over the coming seasons. The earlier it’s maxed out the better you’ll be financially.

You’ll need a lot of money. Especially the players wages will be a major stress for your economy when you start to pay the good ones (although there are approaches to keep this at a bearable level, something that Buziano also alluded to).

Until you have the money to pay the good ones, though, you have to work with the squad you’ve began to manage now. And I’ll point out some things you can do with them next time

They'll come

Now then, onto the examination of your players.

You are most likely well aware of the fact that your squad is not really competitive. That’s of course because the are not very good rated. But even with these not very good rated players you can make it work to the best of their abilities. But you have to take care of them. A FB in your team may be better at OL than the position he’s currently assigned to…

Let’s start with the physicals: First you need to make sure that your teams has a physical condition of 100 %. You of course need to train that regularly to make sure your team does not fa l t e r in Q4 of games. Once physical condition is up you need to train Strength and Speed to determine what your player is best at. That you achieve once a player hit’s a yellow cap-mark in the overview. Maximum value of each physical skill is 50.0. When the yellow mark pops up you have 5 more full points that the value will rise, then it basically stops (you can still train it, but it will rise very slowly).

Strength, Speed, Intelligence and Teamwork are the 4 skills that help you sort your squad to the position groups that suits them best. You can assign your Gunners and Kick-Returners immediately to other position groups: Gunners usually are CB, the intelligent ones LB or SF; Kick-Returners are RB/FB/WR (depending on the other non-physical skills like Catching, Positioning or Blocking).

A basic partition based on the above mentioned skills would be this.

STR + INT + TW -> OL, TE, FB
STR + SPE + TW -> DL
SPE + INT -> QB, WR, LB, SF

Now you can determine the specific position they should play by looking at the non-physical skills, like Carrying, Catching or Positioning, maybe even look for the special traits. Another hint can be found at the bottom of each players overview, where you can see how your player would be rated at a different position. Or you let RZA make a repositioning suggestion in the players overview.

You will not get instantly better just because you re-worked your squad a bit, sadly. Because you still have a lot of players that still need to be developed or that you won’t get far with. But just by examining the team a bit more carefully you can see where you really have to invest to get better.

And make no mistake thinking that all those players are trash: Although you will be having a totally different squad in a few seasons, there still will be a few players that you inherited that will stick around a while… some of them even contributing to the success. Our own Süleyman Berger, for example, is one of those that we inherited as a Kick-Returner in S48. Now he’s one of the first 4 WRs on the First Team Depth Chart. It's always good to keep an eye on what you have
