My two cents, especially nowadays, is that it's better to have a hardcore dedicated user base than trying to capture the generic crowd. The internet / gaming industry has too much good content to allow people to get bored and start searching for a different game. People who like RZA like hardcore building games and NFL (at least it is for me). Go for that crowd I would say.

A good example is phoenixbse.co.uk. Totally unrelated to RZA apart from that it is a very hard building game with a very small but very dedicated userbase (the costs reflect this btw so much more expensive than RZA).

I also echo what gabriel06 said regarding renewal. I renewed to support Pete and for the community and to feel a little bit like a real NFL coach

Like I said...my two cents.

Thanks for those 2 cents, and those other 2 cents, not to forget those other 2 cents and so on

Honestly: I really appreciate your support, guys. And, if you check the left hand forum side of this discussion: it seems, supporters are more involved in such topics as well.

To talk about support: There was once the idea to close RZA for the public, and only to allow private leagues for paying members. This is not what I like, and probably no path for RZA, but I would like to let you know about this. I dislike it because of several reasons.

1.) Leagues would break apart if a single member leaves the league
2.) There would be a challenge limited to the 32 members of such a league, but no "outside rivalry".
3.) You would have to carry waitlists for new users, which I really dislike because of bad experience with such list in the past

I'm the newest manager of those commenting so far but here goes.

Firstly i would be sad if the game was reset as i feel my team is just coming into its stride last season and this (yes this season too!), BUT if the choices were reset with some changes or the closure of the game, i would opt for a reset.

This type of management game is the perfect type of management/ stat game for me. I love the tactical side even though the playbook is a big thing for a newbie, and i love the stats. I'm a bit of a statto.

I understand if those leaving is outnumbering those joining and staying causes you Pete to pause and consider the future and how to prolong this games existence for as long as possible. I back you in your decisions regarding this.

I cant remember how much a supporter account costs but i know it isn't that much (I also know that price is subjective) but when was the last time the price was raised? I know you don't run the game to earn, but it should pay for game related outgoings and in my opinion provide a little extra that can be stored in the event of unexpected events.

Nice to read!

Let me come back to raising prices once we need to do it. At the moment this works as it is...

If we go to private leagues we could play for real money. Just a thought.

No!!! that would lead to cheating. Money is the root of all evil.

A reset would send away more players as the old hands would know what to do and be able to build their teams quicker and disadvantage newer players even more. It may make some who have really worked hard to build up the team to leave if their baby is wiped out.
This is just my 4th season and am only now grasping some of what I need to improve after beating up bots for 3 seasons in 2.1, at least I am not losing by huge margins which could cause some to give it away.

As a new player, being here for 2 seasons now, the hardest thing to get this going is the competition.

Either there is elite league, its 1.1 and its 2.1 leagues.

In 2.1 its mostly bots, making you win with 100+ points. When you advance you get to meet teams thats alot better with ratings over 70-80 when you yourself have maybe 50-65 in rating yourself. The difference in the level of teams is a little to big and i think its becourse there is to many divisions (fire, monarch, galaxy, thunder etc). And once you reach 1.1 its to hard to advance and alot of teams reach some kind of status que?

It would be better for a game like this to have it like a pyramid where all managers compete with each other. That would take away CoC cup tho (no point in having that) Or skip the pyramide altogeather having 1 league at every lvl. You need something to fight for in your leagues.

A reebot would probably be a good idea after makign a few changes that feels right for the current members thats experienced and thats been here for some time. Need to have some easier and long lasting goals thats possible.

maybe im just jibbering...

This is what i'd really like, probably a pyramid of the two options, i just wish there was a way to do it with the current teams.

I'd like to address Gabriel's first post on this thread if I may. I discovered this game a few winters back when i was laid off from my job. I had hours of spare time so went in search of a game that could fill some of those hours. Turns out that I really enjoyed the game and spent a lot of time in those first few months reading all the forums and going over the manual time and time again. I had time to scout my opponents and adjust my own playbook accordingly. Now let me state that my scouting involved a lot of time and paper because I never used excel before. (it took me 3 seasons to learn how to add a column or row.) Needless to say, I did get back to work and my spare time dwindled and I found I didn't have as much time to prepare for games or opponents, and since I'm still useless on excel, my record suffered in the win column. In the last few seasons my life has had drastic changes involving a marriage break up. Of course that involved sprucing up the house and then selling it. After the house sold, then the moving and re-locating, I am just now getting settled into my new place and was hoping to devote more time to the game this season but realistically it looks like next season before I can thoroughly scout my opponents and be more competitive. All through this rough patch, I tried to log in daily and at least do the basics like youth academy, training, set playbooks and scout the draft because I really enjoy this game and wanted to continue playing. I paid my supporter account because I enjoy this game so much that I figured it was the least I could do to help out. $30 CAN is pretty reasonable considering the hours of enjoyment (frustration) I get back out of it. That is my story of how I got to this point and I am sure there is a story for every team in RZA.

As far as the forum issue goes, I agree with Gabriel on this one. Now I haven't really been one to contribute to the forums and maybe all the players like myself should make a conscious effort to contribute more to the forums, especially in the rivalry department. One of my favourite forum reads was the Admirals 1.1 thread a few seasons back. It involved Gabriel and Rock. Gabriel had made a mid season projection that he would finish ahead of me at the end of the season even though I was in front of him in the standings. Rock disagreed and that back and forth went on for about 9 pages. It was great reading and great fun. So Gabriel, even though I didn't respond, your comments were read and enjoyed. So from this point forward, I will make an effort to comment in the forums regularly.

Another consideration is player motive. After I moved up to 1.1, I decided to experiment and try to build an all Canadian team without getting my butt kicked regularly. I know a few other are trying to build from within. Some try to build through the TM. So everyone's motives are different, their football knowledge is different, the amount of time they to put into a game differs as well. So many variables is one of the things that make this game enjoyable.

I did enjoy the slow build more than recent changes but this is Pete's game and I respect and admire the way he runs it. He allows input and even better than that, he actually listens and responds to the input and we are all lucky to have such a man running this game. Keep up the good work Pete, many of us appreciate it even if we don't say so in the forums. As for the rest of us, if you really enjoy this game, maybe we all need to do a little extra to keep this going. I would hate for this game to be gone forever.

So I will finish this long winded statement by thanking Peter for having the foresight, the knowledge, the wisdom and the ambition to start a project this massive and keep it going all these longs years.

Jim
