Just so you know, I am reading this very carefully.

I guess there is much more into it - and yes, I found no solution so far.

The biggest issue I have is the balancing act between creating a game you can play with at least a little efford, but makes somehow fun, and the people who literally want to spend their lifetime while playing RZA. As example, you all know Jack6, who is a long term player. He contributes as well his Blog talking about college football, since many seasons. This guy has somehow fun to play the game, is probably the most rich manager facing no challenges in terms of economy. He finds his fun. There are more such managers. Maybe these guys should tell more about their reason to stick with the game. And yes, I understand when long term managers tell about less challenging gameplay, since the tasks are the same from game to game and season to season.

On the other hand, each single feature I would create to entertain these guys means one more task for newbees.

Maybe it is the nature of such games that it lives from new managers, because veterans feel boring from a certain stage of their career? I don't know. I know, that I fail to bring in new managers at the moment. And I am not very confident this would change, since I feel these type of games are not made for todays generation of players. Could be wrong here as well.

I know it is hard to please these both extremes.

Maybe it would be wise to close RZA down, reset all teams, and restart from scratch. But I really dislike this way...for different reasons

Btw, I am still smiling on "fawlty towers", so thanks again for this... (insider)

I for one would be very sad if RZA was shut down. I have gotten, and continue to get, many hours of entertainment out of it and love to look over all the stats, records, etc. of my team as I have improved and progressed.

Ok, I have been here a few years now and have been really simply going through the motions over the last 2 to 3 seasons. NOT gameplanning etc just randomly picking playbook.

I have thought of quitting for a while and here is why. This is not meant either as a criticism or as this is the definitive problem end of. It just my thoughts and what I feel about the game currently.

I think the gameplay in game is the real problem. It's because of a lack of options both offensively and defensively. I want to be able to throw to RB, I wamt my DT to be able to sack the QB I wamt to chose who and how many I blitz. I want to be able to run with my QB. I wamt to pick coverage type. I just feel the options gameplanning wise are very limited. Having a lot more options and mixed in with a lot more variety in traits Receiving HB, Power HB, Blocking HB etc would then create more problems for a D. Just as similar traits could be given to the D to counter this or create problems the O has to deal with.

The use of Safeties in this game frustrates me. A good in the box safety can shut down the running game. A good backfield safety can really make a Pass D tough.

The relative lack of success of deep and medium throws again us frustrating. With everyone throwing at the markers I can't help but feel this is taking away so much of what makes football great.

I have talked about interior pressure before on these forums. That it's missing I could go on but it feels like a lot of the tools you can use in football arent available.

I guess gameplay wise when you start something new the it's all fresh but over time you find more and more things you done like wirh any game as you learn and get you head around it.

The game has chosen a Football style transfer market rather than the American Football style salary cap and free agency. Firstly the market a become closed with decent players and the price has gone through the floor.

Secondly when an exceptional talent does become available there are a handful of teams with massive budgets who can blow everyone away (much like European Football) Personally a system such as the real NFL would be perfect for me with all the wheeling and dealing you want but relying on skilled managers to create a team where they have to make compromises would be better than the current system where cheque books can overcome most issues for a few.

Hell I would even be happier with a system where you could only draft and grow YA kiddies and there was no transfers at all than the current way it is working . Evening out finances and reducing the availability of free agents are both things I consider would improve the game and help reset the market. Long term I think a way to implement some system whereby teams couldn't run up big bank rolls would help

I have never really understood the argument for a game struggling to attract new blood we make an spend their first season building a stadium it really didn't add any value to the game when I started and really wasn't the reason I wanted to play an American Football game. I have heard the arguments both ways but my take is this. People want to be the HC and GM when they play. NOT many join a game thinking what we wamt to do is spend a season or two building stadium, academy etc with A sucky team which is going to be cut to to a man pretty soon.

This was what inspired me to join and it's the primary reason I play.

Totally agree with comments by Oakbark!

I would address the following issues:
1. Shut down the TM. Use draft, YA and free agency. Cap on salaries.
2. Make PB more user-friendly and more adaptable. (Easy to say, more difficult to do. This may need to be done piecemeal. We need to give more thought as to how it would work)
3. To engender more interest/rivalry then engender more competitive leagues:
a. Remove Bots
b. Realign the leagues so that each consists of teams that are of similar strengths and then have all new players join the same league.
c. Promotion should be limited so that we don't get a big turnover of teams. Maybe only the Bowl winner gets promoted.
The problem with Elite and 1.1 is that so many teams are moving to/from elite and on return (relegation) are going back to random divisions so that previous rivalry is lost in 1.1. As for the elite then rivalry can only exist if two teams are able to stay up and even then it isn't much rivalry with new teams constantly being introduced. Probably better to get rid of the elite altogether.
Replace the Super cup with one/more that would more closely reflect the divisions EG an 'Elite' Supercup featuring the top X teams eg all 1.1 division winners and runners up. They could play multiple times if necessary to decide onward progression.
A 'Premier' supercup featuring the next X teams eg all remaining 1.1 teams.
A 'Champions' Supercup for 2.1 and so on.

Or keep TM but remove transfers based on transfer fees and compete on salary alone BUT with a salary cap. Playing field leveled at once.

really like Oakbarks post, addressing many thoughts many of us share, I guess. I also really hope pete doesnt take this personally, because our expectations are only so high because a lot of RZA is working really well and there is no better sports management game around.

also the game of NFL football simply changed since RZA was launched, in a massive way. maybe that also changed the perception of RZA, but no one could predict or expect such a big cultural shift, and thats a problem everyone working in the realm of the sport, covering or rooting for it has to deal with.

the rise of subpackages defining defenses, HBs being heavily involved in the passing game, the middle of Ds opening up because of new tackling rules... in all fairness, how could a game run by one brave and honourable Pete keep up with all of this? coaches struggle with it, reporters, fans... and I know we dont expect Pete to, but on the other hand thats the NFL experience now its a freaking tough job as so many have posted in here before

The major problem I have with posts by veterans - like oakbark and many others - is that these posts mention the game start to be kind of boring due building the stadium over a course of 2 seasons. The true story is: you can finish your stadium in a few weeks, around half a season. There were major changes since I agree RZA is not stadium tycoon.

At the same time this does not mean I want to turn these posts down bye labeling them "not true" or "uninteresting". Please don't get me wrong here.
