I think we have moved off topic in some posts. The question was whether it is time to end the Elite league. Many managers have put forward opinions on this. I think it is in drastic need of revision. As Metheisman pointed out there is a huge disparity between the leagues. Some teams when promoted to Elite will find it no different to their Div 1 league. Others will find it overwhelmingly different.
I can see no purpose, no fun, in spending three months of RL in a league where you know you cannot survive for the next season. I, for one, have decided that I will not take my team to Elite any more. That is a great shame because it means I cannot afford to win any more conference championships. That began this season! We need to recognise that there is something not quite balanced and do something about it, not just stick our heads in the sand and say 'well it's alright for some people'. My preference (and the easy option) would just be to abandon the Elite league altogether. What we could do to replace it is to have the same system as I believe exists in College Football where teams can apply to join another league. So, to give an example, let's say that I am the winner of the Monarchs bowl. I could then apply to join another league, if I wished to do so and if there were a vacancy. Let's say I want to go to Sea Devils. There is a vacancy so I go. The bowl runner up also wants to go to Sea Devils. Unfortunately for him there is no vacancy so he can't move there. However, his second choice (Fire) has a vacancy so he goes there. We could list say up to three choices although it would not be compulsory to list any. We just work through each league in team ranked order until we get to the last team who may also have asked to be moved to another (easier) league. The current relegation/promotion games could still occur (assuming we have enough human players) with relegation overriding the choice. So say the bottom team in league A.1 wanted to move; there is a vacancy but they lose their relegation game. So instead of moving to league X.1 they drop to league A.2 Teams in division 2 could still have the same options to move but promotion would override their choice of move. |

I don't like the idea of getting rid of Elite. It is a bid maddening with the relegation system, but I like testing my team and tactics vs a higher level of competition. It makes my team better in the end, you can't take any game for granted. I can fine tune how I set up my offenses and figure out what works best on defense vs a multitude of a diverse competition. I have been able to set up a system that's sufficient for me so I don't have to spend an unreasonable amount of time preparing for each game. If we were to get rid of Elite, I would favor being able to change regions. I need to continually challenge myself in this game or else I would get bored after awhile. Going 9-7 this year was not a lot of fun, but I'm still energized to up my game for next season.

Me, speaking from a manager point, I am on of those teams being a regular guest in Elite. I really like it the way it is. For me, it means to set my goals when I enter Elite. Goals are not like "stay there", much more like "be 8-8 end of season". And it means I have to run a little gamble. I have to overspend in the elite season, and therefore prepare my run the season before in Galaxy. However, I cannot enter Elite for cheap, I have to field a competitive team in Galaxy to make it to Elite. Challenge enough, and pace quite right.
I am still open for the discussion about Elites future. |

I can understand why Captain Jack doesn't like to play in Elite… there are plenty of teams better than mine too.
What I cannot undestand is why he think in Monarchs 1 all the teams at the moment weaker than his should be pleased to play against him next season after he got a 16-0. If Elite did not exist Salt City Pirates and Black Dragons would go back in Monarchs 1. It would be different? There are only 8 regions … I doubt he will find asuitable one ... maybe Fire with WW? Claymore wity HG? and so on... A pool of 32 teams seems small but it is really wide from the point of view of the range of players. If I correctly understood Elite was born on order to relieve leagues 1 from the heavy weight of the super teams that would have won the bowls for ages in a row. Coming back I do not think would solve the "problem" if have the pleasure to play against the best RZA teams is a problem. I didn't win anything playing in elite and it is probable I will not in the future so I hope to not be misundestood. |

I would also not like to eliminate elite, but the promotion-relegation-rule is quite heavy and do lead to strange stuff. like the Aliens (as did other teams in the past) tanking the conference championship game or teams which got promoted to elite tanking the season with an extreme roster makeover, since they don't see a light playing with their regular roster anyway.
A smaller group or promotions would likely help and maybe some more flexibility on relegation also. |

But, and I repeat myself, a change for the relegation heaviness will not happen. We need the exchanged spots (2 per division) to allow D1 teams to enter Elite. And yes, if a 3rd ranked team in sich a division makes it the the Elite Bowl and wins, we have an Elite winner who relegates. I am sorry, but I cannot change this without causing major havoc.

That is why I have argued in the past for an improvement to teams starting up. This is probably more important now as we have newer teams coming up into Div 1 rapidly. Again they have had it easy playing bots in Div 2 which gives them no help at all in building up a team and game plan to compete in Div 1. What we need is a more level playing field overall. Getting rid of the Elite would be the first step on the path. In my opinion we ought to be looking towards a way to level the playing field rather than trying to keep the status quo. A small step towards this was my suggestion of allowing all teams to pick another league to which they could transfer. Not perfect but it would be a step in the right direction. |

I guess Pete knew where he was going when he created Elite: A super-league with the best teams from the "normal" leagues.
I think the problem is wanting to keep the origin when the regular league is over. You come from Dragons, from Claymore or from any other and you must return to the same League. Are you sure that's the best option? Would it be a tragedy if a promoted Fire or Sea Devils had to go down to Thunder or Admirals? Why? |

In your opinion allowing manager to change region would lead to have more balanced leagues? Let me say after a while without elite we could have Region 1 League 1 with let me say more or less the first 32 teams of the elo list, Region 2 League 1 more or less the from 33th team to 64th of the elo list and so on? |
