I am working on the playbook and it seems like there are some good groupings together. I know we aren't going to all share our playbook secrets lol, but I am interested in your feedback on how I group these formations together.
Balanced Formation Group: Goal Line 2 WR SG Single Back Big. I put these together because the TE/WR groupings are the same and the only difference is either a FB vs RB or the shotgun aspect. I think of these as balanced because running and passing out of them are very feasible. To clarify, when I say groupings, I mean you could utilize these set of formations for a specified down or a specific quarter together. By keeping these together if seems like you could create some mismatches. My Run Heavy grouping is: Wishbone Flex Proset These are grouped together because of the number of rushers available. Flex and wish have 3 runners while proset has 2. Proset is the most balanced out of the three but is seems like you would be more successful running than passing with these. Pass Happy group: 4WRSG and Single Back Spread which are the same formation except one is FB and one is RB and the quarterback is in shotgun in one of them. These seems pass happy with the 4 wr's but I'm sure you could mix some runs in there to throw the defense off. So do you group formations together similarly in your playbooks or do you have other combinations that work too? |

I play all formations in both ways run and pass.
Sometimes Singleback spread can give you a lot of yards on the ground if opp is playing 3-3-5 defense. Also Pro set can give you good pass yards in def is is 5-3-3. So for me it is a matter of quarter, down, yards to go and finally score at that time. Just one question, why you don't play I formation and Big I formation? |

Some games there are formations outside of shotguns that usually work for you that just don't seem to work as well that game and formations that'll work better than they usual do for your team. Whether it's personnel, the defense or something Pete has added to randomness of each game . |

ahhhh.....well.....those two kind of fit together and wasn't sure how I would categorize them. I do use them but wasn't sure if they were better for the run or the pass. I think they are balanced enough to run or pass out of .

On a pass play does the rb stay in position and block? I know they don't receive. If they also don't block then are they the most useless player in passing plays?

Also, is there a position penalty for having a fb in a rb slot on the depth chart?

They can receive sometimes when you pass outside from proset/and both bones but you cannot force it in any manner. RBs do not block... most of the time they just relax in passing plays... |

So it is a disadvantage to pass with just a rb only formation, for the most part. Proset, Wishbone, Single Back Spread, Single Back Big, Big I, and I formation to a degree are at a disadvantage when passing. It is essentially 11 on 10. I'll have to ponder that....
