Purpose of this thread.

Each "week" I'll s e l e c t a handful of interesting games that I will preview and predict.

Last season I also did some post game commentary but for this season I'm going to try something different. I will have a separate thread for post game commentary.

I am starting for the week 3 games because 1) I wanted to see how teams from Elite and D2 perform and 2) mostly because I'm a teacher and it is spring break. My wife is also home with plenty for me to do lol.

Week 3

Theme

I might have a theme that naturally arises in choosing games. This set of games the theme is "the brink." We have several 0-2 teams that really need the win to get in the right direction.

0-2 Devils Vs 1-1 BPJ

So far.....

The Devils have not shown a lot on offense. They are 29th with the run and 29th with the pass. They have scored 19 total points. 17 vs Westlake and 2 vs recent runner up to D2 champion France. The defense hasn't been awesome either. This is a way different than the 7-0 start last season. I am perplexed as none of the results so far reflect their ability last season (even when he was away for his wife).

BPJ on the other hand is sitting at 1-1 a game back of Werewolves in the division and really want to keep up with the division favorite. Moors still haven't logged in since March 24th so could go bot soon. I'm sure BPJ wouldn't mind if the Moors hung around for another 7 days as Moors are playing Werewolves. If that happens all the more reason for BPJ to try and win this game. Moors don't play BPJ until closer to the end of the season.


This game is going to come down to if we see the Devils of this season so far or the Devils of last season. BPJ is producing pretty similar to last season with a strong ball control run game and efficient pass game. That type of keep away is perfect vs an offense that needs opportunities to get going. I'm picking BPJ to win 27-18. Yes I pulled those numbers out of absolutely nowhere lol.


0-2 Girona Dragons @ 1-1 LA Chargers

So far....

Girona hasn't had the highest level of luck. First they played against the soon to be bot Moors and got destroyed (as most would vs the Moors) then this last game had to be gut punch vs the Outlaws. Girona went into halftime up 28-14 and in complete control of the game. They lost 42-28. What happened? The Dragons had 7 possessions in the second half that resulted in 4 interceptions, a fumble, and 2 punts. Perhaps a game where they had perhaps one of the best offense halves you could want vs the absolute worst half you could ever see.

LA Chargers single victory represents the total wins in the division. The rest of the AC South is 0-6. A win vs Girona would help to keep the lead up and even extend it early in the season. The Chargers handled Turigtians easily in the first game this season and lost to Moors by only 4 points. So far the Chargers have won with defense.

All the statistics point toward Chargers winning. My gut says otherwise. This happens when I play poker too. There are just some hands that the odds of you flopping a good hand are just not that high but you have this gut feeling. This is kind of like that....I'm going with the Gut and Girona winning by 14. By the way, my favorite starting hand in holdem is J 10 Suited.

0-2 Rio Atoms @ 2-0 Gardians

So Far.....

Rio recently switched divisions with me and despite leaving the division with Gardians here we are with another match. lol. In the last 3 seasons Rio is 2-4 vs Gardians. 4 of the 6 games were closely contested. The 2 blowouts were wins by Gardians. This season Rio has been shellacked by Paladins and Stars. This feels a little like last year with a tough start for the Atoms.

Gardians has picked up from where they were last year....or maybe they are making a statement in their first 2 dominating wins. They beat OTR who beat them once last season and beat BPJ handily after barely beating them last year by 1 point.

I am personally rooting for Rio for no particular reason . Seriously, they need the win in that tough division they are in. Too early to speak of no playoffs or relegation. It is even too early to say this is a win at all costs game. However, last season the early losses were too much for Rio to overcome. They have a good roster and should not have a losing record by the end of the season. Despite me rooting for Rio I am picking Gardians to win by 10. Please prove me wrong Rio! lol


2-0 France @ 0-2 OTR

So Far....

OTR has been lit up by Seahawks and Gardians. Granted, both of those teams won their respective divisions last season. OTR has been able to score but has given up 31 and 52 points on defense. Not like the start of last season where they went 7-0.

France is currently tied with Seahawks in the division at 2-0. France has won with their defense keeping the Eagles to 7 points and the Devils to 2 points.

OTR can score fine and have a higher level roster. I think that OTR gets on the right track with this game winning in a low scoring game 24 to 21.

I will be smashed by Gardians. I have mismanaged my team in these first weeks of the season and was penalized with a big morale hit due to economical issues. I have also lost one of my OLs and will probably lose another player on Sunday. I am considering an immediate rebuild already...

I am so sorry, I didn't look at the financial status of teams. If I would have known I wouldn't have put this game on the thread.

Uhhhh do you have to rebuild? You thrashed Gardians. For that I sincerely thank you as I think I'm losing to them this next game. lol

Week 4

Theme

We have 3 games on the list today. The theme this week is.....1st or 2nd? We have 3 games that feature the team that is 1st vs 2nd in their respective divisions.

2-1 Gardians @ 3-0 SF

The only time we have played each other was a supercup match in Season 45 where I was absolutely slaughtered 16-73. The difference is now my overall team rating has risen from 64 to 74. Still not as high as Gardians but I would like to think and perhaps hope that the gap has shrunk some.

So far my defense has held strong but I think the 5th best running attack is going to test my defense. I also think that the Gardians offense and defense is better than the rankings. The first 2 games they handled their opponents with ease but the last game against Rio was a complete 180. If I am facing that Gardians team from the first 2 weeks I think I'll lose by 10, but if there is some breakdown like this last week then I have a shot anyway. I'll pick Gardians to win by 10.

3-0 Guns&Roses @ 2-1 Lonestar

Last week GR survived the Pizti heart attack match while Lonestar lost a tight game vs Paladins. Doesn't get easier this week for either team. These 2 teams have never faced each other with the current managers.

GR is pretty much top 10 in about all categories. There doesn't seem to be a weakness I can find.....perhaps our mighty power ranker can enlighten us lol. Lonestar is a solid team top to bottom, I mean they won their division last season. They also don't have any huge roster holes either. Offense is balanced but the one soft spot might be on defense. I'm picking GR to win by 11.

3-0 Moors @ 3-0 Werewolves

I hesitate to put this on here with the Moors status. Maybe Werewolves get lucky with them going bot tonight. The Moors are strong on auto pilot, beating teams without game planning at all. Werewolves so far have mowed over the first three opponents. Although those three opponents have a combined 1-8 record. In their 4 previous matches the Moors won the first 3 games easily but lost the last game in Season 46 by 1 point. Without game planning I have a feeling that the Werewolves gain a great advantage. I'm picking Werewolves to win by 6 if Moors don't go bot.

I do not know how this happened... I am more surprised by this outcome than you. Never expected a W because all my players were under 80% in morale. But a W with such dominance was really weird. I must ask Drogon what he did with the Gardians...

After this one a rebuild is not on table. For now. But I still need to solve the lack of OL depth created by my mismanagement.
