It is just a coincidence. Your former player is 31 yo and the coach is 42 yo.

What if we could turn retired players (those listed in the HoF page) into coaches? I was thinking about the possibility to pay some value to send these players to a "coaching program" so we can hire them. What you think guys?

Additional ideas from me to add to the original:
- to become a coach the player would have to retire (not - be dropped)
- to become a coach the player would need to spend a certain number of seasons with the team from which he retired
- the choice to follow (or not) the coach path would be the player's, not his human owner-player (somewhat random)
- the player would become a coach in the specialty based on his skills as a player
- in some, very rare cases the player would become a GM not an assistant coach
- once the player becomes a coach, the team he retired from could offer him a job; if the offer is refused, he would be placed on the coach market with the salary higher than the one he refused
- the quality of a player-turned-coach would not (or at least it wouldn't significantly) be related to the quality he represented as a player (at least I don't see any clear correlation IRL, in any popular team sport, between being a successful coach and a successful career as a player).

ps. One more idea (to avoid a sudden flood of coaches aged more or less 31) - the engine would keep the player-wanna-be-coach in its database for several seasons, before suddenly (random, again) returning him to the game as a coach (aged, correspondingly, since his retirement). Only _then_ the possibility to offer him a job would open to his former owner (see above). Those seasons when he was neither a player nor a "registered" coach would be a decisive factor in determining his experience (and possibly other attributes).

I think the idea linkleo has would be a nice addition. It would minimally affect the playability, but it would add considerably (at least in my view) to the feeling it's more than just the numbers we play with here.

One way to make it is through the Teams Hall of Fame. The retired palyers of your team only become eligible after a couple of seasons. So it would be impossible to see coaches with 31yo, 32yo. But I think we will need some restrictions for experience if we turn a "young" retired player into coach.

Hall of Fame is an idea... though wouldn't it limit the list to the accomplished players, exclusively?
Also, personally I could wait longer than a couple of seasons . Imagine, 3 years from now suddenly your favourite player from long long ago returns as a coach
But sure, the way you write is also nice.

EDIT: But realistically, the chances I think are slim. Not too many participants in the discussion here...
