I've never seen anything like this, but watching my league game in RZA today I've realised it is possible that the ball receiver gets tackled in his own red zone. What happens then? Is the next down simply moved further into the red zone? And what happens, should that tackle happen in the 4th down? Is it automatic touchdown?

red zone aka 20 yards before endzone... your question confuses me a little bit. If a ball receiver gets tackled, the ball is spotted there. Why should it be a touchdown?

Sorry... I am afraid I didn't know what "red zone" means ...
I meant the end zone. To give you a specific example, if the line of scrimmage is on own N, and then the tackle for loss of M yards is called, with M > N. In other words, for the next down the line of scrimmage should be M-N yards into the endzone.
I am sure it doesn't work that way. At least not if that last tackle took place in the 4th down. And that's what I meant to ask (sorry again for not double checking the meaning of the words I was using prior to writing).

If the ball carier gets tackled in his own endzone, the result is a safety, 2 points. It does not matter who is carrying the ball. If the carrier had possession, it is a safety.
