Sorry, it's a catalan expression "to fight hand to hand", it means to fight honorably and on equal terms.

It's Bowl Time today

The HAMBURG SEA LIONS just entered the facilities and will have one final training session at 11 AM, before the gates of the stadium will open for the spectators at 1200 GMT.

Many fans already started partying on the parking lot, the atmosphere is mildly ecstatic, despite occasional rain showers here and there.

The front office of the SEA LIONS announced a short press meeting at 1230 where the GM will speak. Stay tuned

@badgers & 4 Aces
Thanks

@Quimriera
I totally agree with you.

The story behind the drawing is based on the story by William Tell. William Tell was a Swiss freedom fighter. According to the Tell legend in the White Book of Sarnen, the Habsburg bailiff Gessler zu Altdorf (under the linden ze Ure) put a hat (Gesslerhut) on a pole and ordered the local subjects to salute it every time they passed him. An "honest man" called Tell, who is secretly in league with Stauffacher, refuses to greet him, and the bailiff orders him to shoot an apple off his son's head with a crossbow. Tell reluctantly does as he is told and hits the apple. He is asked why he took a second arrow. After the steward assures him that he will not kill him, Tell replies, saying that if he had hit his child, the second arrow would have been intended for the steward.

So the Alaskan Fur Trappers aren't shooting at us, they're shooting at the football. Will they hit the ball, or can we dodge the shot? We will see.

To the surprise of many it was not the General Manager of the HAMBURG SEA LIONS who entered the podium at the press meeting before the Bowl Game, but the Offensive Coordinator. While not entirely comfortable with all the attention, he did manage to deliver some good answers on the state of the team hours before the biggest game this franchise has yet been part of.

At first he thanked the coaching staff „who did an awesome job shaping the different units of the squad to an elite team, being able to compete with the best teams in the league“. He went on to give a special shout-out to QB-Coach Wakur Naser who’ll be retiring after this season: „He had great players to work with, sure, but he transformed all three play callers to real team leaders who are able to win games even if the game plan does not provide the right answers.“

Asked about the plan for todays game he said that there are two routes that the offense may go today, but which one it’ll be will be determined on the outcome of the training session and the overall state of the team. „After all it’s, to be honest, a decision based on gut feeling. But we’ll be well prepared with both options, so it’s not that big a deal. It’s way more important to stop the Fur Trappers from scoring, and our Defensive Coordinator is still working on little things to ensure as few points from the opponent as possible.“

There are no experiences from playing against each other, though, since the two teams have not played in a meaningful game to this point. But the OC of the SEA LIONS does not see this as a special challenge: „It doesn’t matter, no. You don’t get to play in a Bowl Game very often, so when you do you give everything you have. If every unit plays to it’s potential we’ll be able to make it hard for the opponent. We just need to make as few mistakes as possible and take advantage of the mistakes that the opponent makes. I guess we’ll be OK then.“

Really cool story about the picture Chrill. Being a musician I had a basic familiarity with the story from playing the song William Tell Overture, a very common beginner piano song in the US, but not that much backstory. Thanks for sharing!

Despite the prognosticators predictions of doom and gloom The Alaskan Fur Trappers are in the stadium and ready to play. We're not sure why they showed up against the latest Dragons wunderkind that some managers get googly eyed over but they're here. Speaking with the Trappers coaching staff they say they haven't changed anything, "We have faith in our system and our players, old school football. As the infamous Joe Stalin once said 'there are no invincible armies (teams) never has been and never will be'. We'll let the 4th downer pass happy teams play thier game and we'll play our game". They seem confident in the locker room and willing to let the football God (game engine) decide the game.

Best of luck to both teams as the pregame festivities are wrapping up it's about time to kickoff the 52nd edition of RZA Dragons Championship Bowl game.
Best of luck to both teams, Lets hope for an entertaining game.

Congrats to the Dragons 1 Champion the Hamburg Sea Lions

We lift our glass to you my friend for a hard fought game.
Can't say I'm not wishing we won the OT cointoss but you absolutely ran us over in OT. Play calling on both sides I thought was excellent save for 1 each in the forth quarter.
Well played and well earned, we'll catch you next time.

Congratulations to both of you. Getting to the SB, in our beloved and extremely competitive Dragons League is no little achievement, and certainly not a coincidence.

It seems that for both teams, this game got them their very first trip to the Elite League. Let’s wish them good luck, because things are very different and even tougher up there ( and Jonny’s Cheltenham Bobbers your tougher opponent yet !).

Unfortunately for me and the Cargese Dolphins, since 4 aces is replaced by a former Elite manager, our divisions might not be up for grabs yet… but hope is still allowed, who knows…

Thank you all very much for all the congrats, it's still an awesome feeling to have won the first big one. It rivals the mood when the SEA LIONS won their first game in D1 at all, back in S49 against the Owls. We've come a long way since then.

And we salute you, too, for this game and your accomplishments. I'm looking forward to two more games next season

I know which play we mishandled, but I can't see where you did

It is the first trip for us, yes. And to be honest: I do not see us staying there for long. The squad will be nearly the same like this season, but after that there will be a shake-up. And we still have to have a season in which we stumble... until now we did not have to fight with setbacks a lot. So it will be one big learning experience next season.
