We often have posts about teams who are behind playing quickly at the end of the game, which they do, 2 minute clock stops ball spikes and so on.
What about teams who are ahead during the second half of the fourth quarter playing much more slowly? I lost a game this week against a strong opponent when they pulled ahead with 63 seconds remaining. I had 4 running plays in the last 7 minutes that took less than 2 minutes off the clock between them. At 45 seconds on the play clock and the time of the play, slower play might well have saved the game for my team. To be honest, I make this suggestion to balance out the thoughts in this area which are mostly focused around the chasing team. As long as we all play by the same rules, I see no issue either way. I often hear the late great Vince Lombardi famous clip "what the hell is going on out there" when my offense is running plays at 27 or 34 seconds. If I'm nursing a slight lead & my QB is running plays that quick he'd be pulled from the game.
