Right now when i get a new player (from youth academy or draft) i usually do things roughly in this order:

- check INT and TW, i usually want 35 on each, mostly fire ones that don't reach both (altho i do sometimes keep lower intelligence players if i can train and fit them into positions where int isn't needed, especially if they have high tw and high spe and str)

- find yellow SPE and STR with 90% fitness training, then drop to 10-40% to slowly reach red one avoiding overtraining (currently i have low chance to have 1,4 point increases per training, i very rarely reach even 1,0 with current coaches so i don't gamble on trying to get one point higher), for most positions i do want 42 on both as 42 is very close between 35 (minimum red) and 50 (max value) altho i do have some players with 40+50 for example for positions where one skill is A and other is B

- so a "minimum" general player for me start with 35 int, 35 tw, 42 str and 42 spe

- next step is training POS and VIS to 25 each, am usually doing this at the same time as am trying to find yellow/red for SPE and STR

- while am doing above things i usually look at players biggest skills and try to pick position that current skills are indicating towards (for example high catch with low block might be WR, if both are decent then perhaps TE is better, if it has some catching and attack it might be LB, CB or SF depending on other skills, i don't "lock" the position until i find yellow/red for SPE and STR but am already trying to plan ahead - when i use notepad or excel sheet i write list of potential positions next to the players name)

- after POS and VIS are 25 i then start to train other A and B skills all reaching 25 as well (not agility, that i usually have 10% training for most roles, i might turn this up in near future since yoda keeps advising it), if i haven't picked the final position for the player i just pick the next highest non-physical as that is usually safest to train at that point

- after i have 25 on A and B skills i also train C skills to 25... for some roles that is 5 non-physical skills.. this is one thing i might drop down a bit

my reasoning for having all 25 is that it keeps wages low since top 2 skills (that aren't STR or SPE) are taken to account - if they all are around same number its usually AGI that factors in higher wage

- once all ABC skills are 25 then i start to build A and B skills over that, i have decent amount of players that have 35+35+35+25+25 on their ABC skills but not every position is filled with these sorta players yet, i think i have only 2 players that have passed 40+40 or 40+40+40 on their A and B skills

- i know that if i don't train C skill at all or lower the number i want to reach i could focus more on A and B skills, sometimes this might mean about 3-13 higher skills on A and B, this is not a high increase but i would have more useful players if i skip or lower the focus on C

So my questions mostly are:
1) should i drop C skills maybe to 15 or 20 instead of 25 ? or perhaps not train C at all until A and B skills are capped by talent ?
2) should i increase agility training ? i know AGI is one skill that DOES count towards the "top 2 skills" when calculating salary so i will keep that in mind and probably aim to have it as high as the other A and B skills
3) lets say if i train A to 42, how high should B be ? would around 35 be decent or would you instead train A and B to be as high so around 39-40 instead? ( lets say for DL would you rather have 42+35+42 or 39+39+39 on VIS POS and TAC ? )
4) is there anything else am missing with this plan, something to improve or add ?

I wouldn't be too quick to fire someone if they don't have the Int or the TW, because there are positions that don't need the Int, and someone with a 33 TW can also become a very strong player. For example, the first player who is retiring from my team after this season is one of my best players and has a TW of 29.7, and he's still one of my best guys.

The minimum for red is 40 in strength, speed and agility,, not 35.

I would say that depends on the salary you want to pay. Personally, I sometimes train C skills at the end of a player's contract in order to minimize the salary a little when the contract is next negotiated. Or I have the A and B skills as high as I want and then I train C skills.
kummo wrote:

I try to keep agility at about the same level as A skills. During the season, I often train only 10%, but at the end of the season, I train agility more frequently at 90% to increase it to that level.

I usually train the A skills up to 35, then I bring the B skill up to about 30, then I bring the A skills up to 40 and then I also raise the B skill to 40. Of course, it all depends on when the contract extension is due, as this can vary depending on salary.

What you're doing is fine, really. And I only have my own experience to go on. I'm definitely one of the worse managers in the game, but I think you're on the right track.

1) You still have unused AC-CPs on your coaching staff, which is a waste.
It seems you have roughly 250 points left. Likely 4 coaches, whatever flavor you like.
Will add to your Youth Academy TPs per update.

2) It's your decision on which skill to train when, but don't left agi slip too far, better have it on the level as your A-skills / VIS/POS, because it can't make things worse that way on wages and will help for sure.

3) I would not go on C-skills until you are on an self-imposed wage-cap with all other A- and B-skills. So, figure out, which skill level is fine for your wage cap and train A- and B-skills to that level (like 40, 43 or even higher) and then, when all is there, get to C-skills to have a goal on the training in that phase. But here is the tricky part. Which skill is really C level is different in the opinions on the managers. My guide does just show mine.

4) It reeds you train physicals like 42.6, 42.7, 42.8, 42.9, 43 in case the red cap is 43. But you can train 42.8 or even 42.9, depended on your coach setup, and then train one last time 90% so you might get to 43.9 to 44.3 or so. That way you can get, depended on the coaches setup and the age of the player, more than 1 skill point above the cap. As said, it reeds that way, I might be wrong and you do it already that way.

5) INT and TW, especially since the training results were increases, are not really a no-go below 35. Some positions don't need high INT (sure, the more the better is everywhere nice) or high TW.

6) Look at your facilities, you can increase training by the right ones at the right time.

Yes, if you have a level 20 scout, the yellow cap is displayed 5 points before the cap, and that comes at 35 at the earliest, which means that the red cap is at 40. Also, for all new managers, the cap is always a whole number, i.e., 40.0, 41.0, 42.0, etc.
So if the yellow cap appeared 5 points before 35, you can train up to 39.9 and then train at 90% to train as high as possible. (as jack6 already wrote)

Strength, speed, and agility always have a red cap between 40.0 and 50.0. (But you can't train higher than 50, even if the cap is 50 and you train at 90% at 49.9, the player will only have 50.0 after training.) All other caps are based on the player's talent.

Simply not true.

Players can be yellow-capped from 30 (in STR or SPE or AGI), meaning that a player who yellow-caps at 30 will red-cap at 35.

For 10 years playing RZA never saw that.

As someone wrote yellow comes as early on 35, so red is on 40.

No players have str or spe below 40.

So , you know better than Pete ??

Just for reference: we have more than 200k players in the database where speed or strength is red-capped at 35. But Youth pulls will have a hard time capping at that 35.

From here - - -> Red-caps @ 35

As I wrote, in 10 years playing RZA I never saw that.

Never had a youth pool with less than 40 in any of those two skills.
