Guys first off.. I love the idea of this game... i'm a participant in modern fantasy football but will give it up to practice this game full time... I've been begging for something like this for years now and now that its here.. I want all the way in.

I've been on the game for about a week now and JUST now getting to setting my depth chart and I noticed that there are actual positions for KR and Gunner. While this is true that these are positions in the real sport... what isnt necessarily true is there are people who play these positions and ONLY these positions. Typically the KR is a speedy runner who doesnt have the greatest of skill sets for their primary position (IE. a WR who doesnt have the greatest of hands or route running abilities).. and pretty much likewise for the gunner. There are Return specialists.. I'll grant you that.. but no where in football is there a market for Gunners or specialists at that position. There basically fringe players who are in development or journey players.

If you ask me... I think the game's engine should just automatically put your low depth chart WR/CB/SF players at gunner and take the whole thing out of the manager's hands. For Returners.. I think it should be set up as an ability via Stat or special ability (which is more precise) and you designate that player to the position of KR based on that mechanism rather than his individual position be KR.

What do you think?

Just a small note, without judging about the suggestion itself

Of course it is on you to put players in as G/KR as you like. For myself, I dont use G and KR dedicated to this position, I am using HBs for returning and CB/FS for the G part.

The result is pretty much what you suggested, and at the moment there is no penalty for playing a player out of his position. And if we will add such a penalty it will for sure not affect the CB/SF/HB rating, if you play such a guy on Special Teams - because of the things you pointed out.

I see your point... and will no doubt once I get more involved in the game do likewise as far as how I fill the depth chart for those positions.

My counter is this though. (1.) Why even have it as a position? In terms of the gunner, its very much inconsequential and I'm almost positive there isnt a single head coach in any level who has oversight or even cares who the gunner is. They just plug a non-starter in. (2.)In terms of KR though, why it is an actual position in this game? Why when I go to my depth chart I see players listed as KR/Gunner as far as that being their primary position and see that same player no where else in the depth charts of my team? That doesnt happen. Teams dont field 4 WRs.. then 2 KRs... teams field 6 WRs and designate two for return duties...

see my point?

real quick.... there is no difference between the position NT and DT. Its basically verbage about how the DT is positioned on the line (NT is a DT that lines up directly in front of the OC where as a typical DT lines up over the OG)... a depth chart slot for each could be confusing for managers new to football...

Yes, but there may be a specific player who is exceptionally strong you want at NT. So in those formations you want that guy there.

thats true sfniner.. but for depth chart purposes... you could just make the default NT the number #1 listed DT or make it so that in 3-4 line ups player X is the DT on the field...

just saying in football language DT and NT are the same position.. only difference is the formation.
