So if the starting player is replaced because his energy level drops below the threshold, does he return to the game when:

1. His energy level rises above the threshold (due to rest)

or

2. When his replacement energy level drops below the threshold.

?

It seems like #2, but that means the starters and the reserves play about the same number of plays, no?

I don't know, maybe energy levels are check/re-computed after each play?

Play 1 will be substituted if his energy level drops below the threshold. Then the "best energy level" out of the DC for this position comes in, until he is below the threshold. If he is already the below the threshold, the "best energy level" out of the DC for this position comes in, until....

What happens then if there is only 1 player for the position on the DC?... does the starter play the whole game no matter how low his energy level goes?

Also, I've noticed backups come in pretty quickly if you leave the settings at default... I've had 4 players in as QB on my DC, and sometimes see the 3rd and 4th QBs start to appear as early as the 2nd quarter, even when the 1st 2 begin with 95% condition or higher. I'm loathe to change it too much due to worrying about injuries, but the substitutions are happening a lot sooner than I had expected.

Yes!

Just use the settings and lower the threshold. I do not see more or less injuries due substition, so I do not really understand your fears

I wasn't saying that injuries occur more often, but I have seen 2-3 players in the same position get injured before, so I have the extra personnel on the DC to cover the rare occurs when both QBs get hurt...

As it is at the moment, all 4 seem to get quite a few plays.

The sort of settings I'd like to see are:
- only use x if points difference is >y (brings on backups when losing or winning by large margin)
- only use x if player(s) y get injured (brings on backups only in the event of main player(s) getting injured

I've been trying to get some form of passing game moving, but in a recent Supercup game the substitutions at just the wrong moment helped turn what should have been an easy win into a narrow defeat.. my oppo got 2 fumble return TDs, and it seemed that whenever my team passed the ball, one of my reserve QBs was on the pitch - with the option to not substitute certain positions if the game is still very close, I might have had a little more success!!!

If you want to be sure becvause of injuries:

way #1: put them all on DC, from superstar to "worst replacement ever". Adjust the substitution threshold to 50 or below - you have to try a bit on this.

way #2 (better way): put the superstar on DC, and don't put "worst replacement ever" on the DC, but make sure the replacements have the right position set. The engine will then substitute "by roster position", if it runs out of DC-positions. At least this is how it should be. The benefit: if your superstar gets temp. injured, the engine picks from the whole roster, and immediately after he is in the game again, he is the field again.

So why put anybody but the starter on DC other than Energy lvl?

Is the substitude randomly picked out of the players with right position?

You can not control, which players enters the game when the roster pick is active. But in injuries I wouldnt mind. Of course you can avoid this by putting the guys on DC in order, and using the threshold as explained in way #1. I would use #1 in regular games probably, and #2 in games that are less important, to have the selected guy on the field as often as possible

The easiest way is to put your Superstar with his subs and just put in game settings no sub for him... So if he is injured, he would be replaced by the right guy...
