This happened during my last game:

11:15 XX punts the ball from opp 40 for 38, XY is returning the ball, gets tackled by YY, this was a 8 yards return.
11:07 1 and 10 to go on own 10...

So my suggestion is a touchback feature, say when the ball would land on my own 10 yard or less, I decide not to catch it, and there's a high chance that the ball bounces into the endzone (like 80% chance, or whatever seems realistic), resulting in a touchback meaning 1 and 10 to go on own 20 in the example above.

There could be an option for this in the "orders for the next game" menu, something like:

Try for touchback if ball would land on own: 15/14/13/12.../1 yards

Could make a difference

But this could also result in a 1 and 10 on your own 1.

That's always a possibility even in the NFL if they choose fair catch and the ball stays on own 1, or the other team's players knock it back before it can land in the endzone.

That's a risk the manager has to decide if he's willing to take it or not.

And of course there should also be an option for "never" and this should be the default setting. So something like this, with "never" being default:

Try for touchback if ball would land on own: 15/14/13/12.../1 yards/never

If the KR decides not to catch?

different things can happen

1.) Fair catch

2.) The KR stays away from catching, by intention
2a.) The ball stays inside the field
2b.) the ball goes into the endzone

3.) return
3a.) the KR makes the catch
3b.) the KR misses the catch

No it shouldn't. The KR doesn't want to catch it, nor will he try to. You're choosing fair catch and "hope" for the ball to bounce into the endzone for a touchback (just like in real life).

If you're confident in your KR catching and returning skills, then you should choose "never" and it's like nothing has changed.

Nope it wasn't.

Just a quick correction to my original suggestion:

Not every single yard number should be an option, more like "never/<15/<10/<5 yards"

So something like this in the game settings menu:

Try for touchback if ball would land on own: "never/<15 yards/<10 yards/<5 yards"

Also if a team decides to "try" then it should be automatically considered a fair catch to prevent the other team from gaining back posession of the ball (makes things easier overall).

Don't forget also the possible
- touch of the punting team to keep it in bounce and on the field (happens not very often, but it happens)
- muff of a team member of the returning team (returner or one of the blockers) because of that bouncing ball, whcih direction can't be anticipated, which results in a free ball! (also not very often, but it happens)

I like the OPTION, but if implemented, it should cover all options.

Since it's not really a high priority suggestion, I'd like to see at least my suggested basic form of it, which is also easier to implement (i think ).

Of course in time it should cover all possible outcomes, but even now if the ball, say, bounces backwards from my own 1 yard line, then the description in the game center could tell you how it happened (bounced back, batted back by the punting team member etc.)
