No luck, only skills and tactic Where the skills and tactic when two times the LBs of the 49ers blew their Ints by hurting each other with the ball in their hands??? (but I'm glad they did) |

Skills. Two mistakes, like -G.O.A.T- with the safety at the first snap and the bad pass for the Welker's drop. |

Ok, it's fine for me, that you think this way.
In my opinion, luck is a very big part of every sport. Skills can bring a player to a certain point, but even the best have drops, fumbles and what ever can happen on the field. And luck is in both directions, godd things can happen and bad things. The Ball for example is a thing in this game which brings a big part of luck into it. Don't know, if you ever chased a free bouncing ball, but it is a nightmare. You can be lucky and the ball bounces right into your hands or it changes the direction and jumps away from you. We had a team in our league which could compete with any team in our league. And of the season they relegated with losing all games by 7 points or less and our team promoted. Half a year later we played that team for pre season and the blew us apart. They had a very unlucky season with injuries at the wrong time and bad luck on some plays each game and when the had a normal game the were clearly better than us, but we were 2! leagues ahead of them. After that next season, we relegated and they promoted easily. In this simulation, luck (so random numbers) has to be a part of it, otherwise this game would be very boring, as Peter said. Creating an engine is very complicated and I'm still astonished, how even the games do play out. |

Skills. Two mistakes, like -G.O.A.T- with the safety at the first snap and the bad pass for the Welker's drop. ...when you are heading a hail mary pass into the end zone it is simply luck. It´s a percentage game. Also with the Welker catch. Welker doesn´t make the catch 99 out of 100 times...he makes it i dunno 80 times or so. Of course it is mostly the skill set and the percption, but there are critical moments in the game where you need some luck...look at the two Giants fumbles, a slightly different roll of the ball would have cost a (decisive?) turnover. AF is about luck too, especially in close games. Last edited on 2012-02-09 13:49:11 by notsch |

I agree with notch, luck is clearly a factor in American Football. How the ball rolls after a fumble or a punt can change the course of a game and that's pure luck. The wind can also burst at the right/wrong time and force a FG in or out for example.

For the drafted players concern. I think 3 is good.
Consider that in the NFL there are 7 rounds. Out of the 7 picks a team may have, how many are superstars? 2 if you are fortunate. If a team gets 3 players that are superstars that is a premium draft in the NFL. Think about how many busts there are? How many low drafted players there are that surprise? The difference between here and the NFL draft is that we are guaranteed to see how good or bad a player is, there is no guess work about what his skills are. In the NFL draft you have to scout well and be a little lucky. In the end, I think 3 great/superstar players guaranteed is better odds than the NFL. I could, in fact, argue that we could reduce the draft to 2 rounds. I wouldn't want that personally though. |

The salary cap is a coming, it will be when you reach the point that player/coach salaries are matching your income. Just takes some time until we get there.
