How do you decide which player does which type of run?

Sorry for the rookie question

If you designate the formation and the direction, you can send your through the middle and your HB to the flanks.

No big deal.

I'm just going from the text in the game logs...I think those are the only possibilities. I think its by which O-Linemen the RB/FB/QB runs behind, not the gap or hole between linemen.

I don't understand... in the Playbook I see an option to set, for example Big I Formation and Run Middle but I don't see where I get to pick if the guy running is my fast and elusive RB or my strong FB. Where do I do that?

You have to look at how the formation is setup. For example, Pro Set:

Pro set otl otr ogl ogr oc wrl wrr ter hbl hbr qb

In this case, you have two halfbacks. So Pro Set to the flanks would mean a HB is always running to the outside.

Then there are Shotgun formations:

Shotgun 2 WR otl otr ogl ogr oc wrl wrr tel ter fbr qb
Shotgun 4 WR otl otr ogl ogr oc wrl wrl1 wrr wrr1 fbr qb

In this case, you have a single fullback. So Shotgun to the middle would mean a FB is always running up the middle.

Now, here's where I'm not 100% sure. But if you setup Wishbone:

Wishbone otl otr ogl ogr oc wrl wrr hbr hbl fbc qb

If you let the direction be random, I think the left and right runs will go to the hbr and hbl and the middle runs will go to the fbc.

Thank you Steve, that's much clearer. I'll go adapt my Playbook accordingly.

Results of my experiments in the friendly:

Run Middle - always over center
Run Right/Left - always right/left end
Run Middle Right/Left - always over right/left end/tackle/guard

Okay... Following example: I play wishbone "middle and right". My idea was in about 50% of the plays my FB would attack the middle, in the other 50% of plays my RB would attack the strong right side (no matter if over the guard or the end...)

But if I got you right, only my RB will be attacking the guard on the strong side?

Surely there is no strong side in the Wishbone?

5 OL
1 QB
2 WR
1 FB
2 RB

No TE?
