Eddie Royal looked like he would be a star after his first season...then...well he wasn't. In the NFL WR and QB take a while to develop to be really good or they walk in to a perfect situation with a really good qb or wr to complement them to speed up the process. RB's should have impact right away. You will know if they will be good or not. If in 2 more seasons he hasn't taken a step forward then I will agree with you.

a really good QB needed ? ....well that won't be Alex Smith then !

I think the 49'ers have been far too average at WR for far too long now.
I don't see people like Moss, Crabtree etc being the solution ....they're more like the problem rather than the answer.

With WR's like Moss/Crabtree ....the 49'ers will need 2 things this season ....Vernon Davis playing great like in the playoffs, rather than Vernon Davis playing average like the regular season .....and they'll need Frank Gore to stay fit all season, which is unlikely as he's really looking like a RB with too many miles on the clock.

Sad to say it, but it looks like the 49'ers are relying heavily on Defense again this season if they are to have anything approaching a decent season.

You should try being a Cleveland Browns fan like me. It really puts the qualities of wide receivers into perspective....
