I've brought up the topic before and it got shot down rather quickly but I want to discuss it from another angle.
so I'm just throwing out this feeler question first... What do you guys feel about the main knowledge you have of your opponents is the Off/Def/Spec %? I doubt any of us have seriously scouting any of our opponents players so all many of us have is basically an overview of how strong that particular team is. I'm coming from the perspective that it really doesnt make logical sense for us to know the %'s of another team if we dont explicitly know the skill levels of the other teams players. I have suggestions but I want to know what you guys think of this conundrum first.... |

For me the rating is more a information how good a team is trained, but not how good it will perform on the field. My team has 51% but perform only like 45-47%.
You have to "scout" the last games of your opponent to learn something about the real teamstrength. |

Gathering Knowledge successor to Staff Thread
I doubt anyone's opinions on the matters have changed much in the few months since I've brought it up... but I'm just curious as to why people feel there is nothing contrary about an opposing manager knowing what an overall team's %'s are but are against knowing the individual player attributes of that teams player. Basically i'm of the mind set of all or nothing. Either I know what the teams players are capable of thus enabling me to know the %'s or I can't see the players stats and am totally blind to that team's overall rating and can only look at the previous games stats as judgement. |

If I scout a team I scout their tendencies and try to build their playbook using the game center. I do that to see if it makes sense to change my defense at all.
I scout for my offense by looking at what worked vs that team by other teams and I scout the players of that other team to see if my players compare and have a chance at that same result. |

A fine tactic and one I think Buffalo uses as well... but thats not an answer to the question i've asked. With that method your system won't change at all if we open up the curtains on other teams personnel or we totally close the curtains on personnel. I'm basically wondering whats the justification of our knowledge of the percentages of another team's strengths/weaknesses without the knowledge of that team's personnel numbers. |

My answer to the importance of rankings ist this match.
For all those who don't want to look it up: KTB-Passing: 1 TD/2 INT/100 Yards DS9-Passing: 4 TD/0 INT/248 Yards Rating: 45,7% vs. 46,3% (0,6% Difference) KTB-Punting: 32,7 average DS9-Punting: 33,5 average KTB-Kicking: 2 tries, 2 good, 54 and 52 Yards DS9-Kicking: 2 tries, 2 good, 46 and 25 Yards KTB-Kickoff: 63,8 average DS9-Kickoff: 60,3 average Rating: 67,9% vs. 47,6% (20,3% Difference) So in the Overall-rating he outnumbers me 50,6% to 47,4%... while I outnumbered him 48:13 on the scoreboard. While I join those who gather knowledge in a different way, I think at least the special team rating needs another look... |

I have suggestions but I want to know what you guys think of this conundrum first.... I don't agree. I think this is info that is out there i.e. the percentages of the other team is more-or-less available in real life from Internet websites and newspapers (do they still have newspapers in America ) . So ...if I wanted to find out,for example, how good/bad New England are on Special Teams, I could do it pretty easily. However, if I wanted to know the exact skill levels of every player in the NFL, that would take a lot more effort and research, and in certain areas I'd be struggling ....e.g. how high a rating does Tom -G.O.A.T- have at Linebacker ? ...try finding that info anywhere !!! For that info, I'd need an RZA scout report....maybe that's the way it should be. So, in answer to your question .....it's not a 'conundrum', it's just the way it is in real-life.I don't want to second-guess whatever your proposed suggestion is, but I've got a feeling it might be a fix for a problem that doesn't exist. However, the best thing for any suggestion is to go for it in the suggestions thread, even the dumbest suggestions sometimes get incorporated into the game .... MOTY anyone ? |
