I noticed more and more teams throwing games just to get better draft picks. I don't blame them for it - - its a legit strategy so long as it exists. But should it exist? When the NBA had that problem, it went to a draft lottery and a wonder if its time to do that in RZA.

I wonder how many teams would throw a whole season of league games just to the the 12th overall pick?

perhaps go to a lottery as the nhl has bottom 5 teams draw for who gets the first five picks, so the teamwith the worst record may get the first or may get the fifth.

For my team I can say it wouldn't make any sense since my squad is quite on a comparable level to draftees - OK maybe 1 or 2 seasons from now this is really true. So if a team feels it should waste a complete season just to get the 1st round pick...I don't care

In general, I agree with you. With the except of maybe that total stud QB or something, most of my current players are getting pretty close to draft level.

That said, there seem to be even more people throwing game that before.

Here's why I think it matters: because scheduling is uneven. If you're in a division with a club throwing games, you get two walkovers. Another team in the conference (who is essentially competing for the same wild card spots and playoff home field advantage) will play that same team zero or one time.

So he might be getting two fewer walkovers than you and additionally when you consider the that walkovers allows you to also run up the score, you're getting about 2 1/2 games advantage (the 2 walkovers plus the huge bonus in PD).

How about Pete just caps the maximum point-differential a team can get in a single game? (Similar to what texat1suf did in his Top-25 ratings)

Then a 200-0 result only adds (for instance) 50 to PD. If we copy texat1suf the max would be 33, iirc. Pick a number that works.

Other solutions might be too draconian. It's a game and people, by and large, ought to be able to play how they like.

That might work for the PD, but what about the walkovers?

Lottery for all non-po teams

PO Teams seed as we have now (NFL Style)

Maybe this would help abit let teams reconsider throw games

If there should be a change, then maybe the relegation can be modified.
For example, you go 0-16 in a season, your team is by default demoted to the next lower league.
Don't change the draft to a lottery or to a lottery for all non-PO teams.

I think it's actually part of a bigger problem that I've touched upon before.... i.e. there aren't really that many incentives to win, there aren't really that many penalties (if any) to dissuade teams from intentionally losing .... throw in the fact that it's very possible to deliberately spend your entire career in a 2.1/2.2 league yet still get exactly the same attendances as a 1.1 league and you will end up with teams that are losing intentionally or not promoting intentionally.....obviously this could be for many reasons, but better Draft Picks could certainly be one of them.

I made some suggestions about this not long ago but there always seems to be two arguments to shoot down any suggestions (1) Teams can lose if they like, it's not against the rules (2) any attempts to increase the incentives of playing/winning in 1.1 are seen as helping "the rich get richer".
