Just wondering what everyone's view is on when to best promote a player to the senior team. At the start of the season when they turn 20 or leave it until the last possible day to get the extra points but then risk losing them if you don't get a contract signed in time

If he's not a player you are pumping YA points into, then what is the benefit of keeping him in your YA (other than not paying his wages)? |

There is another plus if you have a small roster: Keeping them in the YA keeps them out of the team! If you have less than 55 players on the DC, every player in your senior roster is available for playing time... So even players who still need some time to develop will be on the field.

Team needs: If you have already a 19 almost 20 year old value a draft pick or almost that value and you NEED him - why not take him start of the season? If he stays for the season in the YA he will be a monster for sure, but you loose 1 season of he senior production You also loose one year of pumping those YA-points into another YA player Size of your YA: if you have 22 players in it and your 20 year old is ready for the senior team - why not promote him and make room for a new 16 year old? Overall strength of the roster: if you have a strong roster, an early promoten makes no sense. You will just pay a weak player for a year and get basically nothing of him. If the overall roster is weak, even a full capped youngster could make a difference. Financal situation: If you have for what ever reason financal trouble, the later you promote, the more you will save. |
