1 day to go before the opening ceremony, although the soccer tournament is already underway (expect Team GB to be as successful as England in the Euros/World Cup!)

I just wondered what you guys are making of it so far? Are press reports positive/encouraging? Are the games expected to be a spectacular success?

There is a kind of cautious optimism here in the UK about it - it seems (even now) to be organised chaos, but i guess these things always are....our esteemed Mayor of London (Boris Johnson, please god let him be PM one day) is saying the right things in his bumbling, comic way....i fully expect something to go magnificently wrong at some point.....we got off to a great start by displaying the South Korea flag for the North Korean ladies soccer team....

so comments now welcome and as the games progress....lets hope we get a few hours sunshine and the transport system doesnt collapse as a few local bookies are offering reasonable odds on it doing!

For anyone who hasnt , as yet, had the delight of listening to our Mayor of London in action.

This is genuine i promise you - this isnt a comedian portraying him...

May i present to you Boris Johnson

Can't wait to get the Games started! Always love the Olympic and I think London will be doing great. I mean, isn't this city always organized chaos? And the facilities look just great. I'm really excited about the opening ceremony. What will Danny Boyle do? Will Daniel Craig appear as Bond, James Bond? Please let Paul McCartney play some Beatles stuff! What will this "fancy mechanism" be, to light the flame?

Regarding Bo-Jo: Can I vote for him as a German? By the way: The guy he tackled away should have known how to avoid a foul by a politician! It's Maurizio Gaudino! Not only well remembered because of his five caps for Germany and his journey to the World Cup 1994, but also for his legal problems with cars and insurances which brought him two years on parole

Did not started very well in the Womens soccer Tournemant, the organization switched the flags of the North Korea with the South Korea, North Korean players refused to enter the pitch when they saw their pictures in the Big screen along side a South Korea flag. Way to get the first political incident out of the way! Outch

yeah, reported that in the OP....its the kinda thing i expect from us....ill also expect us to play the Star Spangled Banner when theres a Canadian gold medal winner, and God Save the Queen when theres an Aussie winner....

by the way, patriotism aside, which nation do you think has the best national anthem? My vote goes to Russia....think its the stone cold nuts of national anthems....dunno why, just gets the hairs on my neck up....

well here we go today....wish us luck world - the 2012 Boris Johnson inspired Olympics WILL go down in history....for one reason or another!
