In real life 4-3-4 being balanced with an edge on stopping the pass and the 3-4-4- being balanced with an edge on stopping the rush.

Because antipass 4-3 is based on the DEs' rush to QB.
But 3-4 is based on OLBs' blitz.
So, for 4-3 more players in backfield.

At RZA it is a little bit different. I think the Pass from the DEs is nearly the same in the 3-4 and 4-3. If you set blitzes from 3-4 to 0% than you have one more player in the backfield to defend the pass compared to the 4-3.

Exactly. Of all the Ds, other than 4-1 and 3-3, this should be best against the pass. Without blitzing there are 4 LBs to clog up the middle.

In fact, vs the pass, the 3-4 wins hands down vs the 4-3. If you blitz a LB in the 4-3 then your down to only 2 LBs covering. You can blitz a LB out of the 3-4, have the same coverage as the 4-3 (no blitz) and get the added benefit of a great blitzing LB. So the 3-4 with a blitz has the same coverage as the 4-3 but with 3 players that can make a sack vs 2 in the 4-3.

The engine needs -

1/ WR/TE/FBs blocking on runs
2/ Receiving backs
3/ Pass rushing tackles

No problem... I made the mistake to ask a crappy team to be my sparing partner

Check out this article by NFL Lead Draft writer Matt Miller:

Please, read it again!
And you can find

It’s common for defensive coordinators to assign one gap when slanting the defense to the right or left. Unlike the 4-3 defense, ends in a 3-4 defense are not rushing the quarterback as their first duty. An end in a 3-4 defense is taught to play run-to-pass, meaning his first job is stopping the run.

Scouting points: A defensive end in a 3-4 defense is generally a player who has experience at defensive tackle while at college.

Each defense varies slightly, but the primary job of an outside linebacker in the 3-4 defense is to rush the quarterback. Ideally, an outside linebacker would be a former defensive end with top-tier athleticism.

Interestingly, why is it?

The 4-3 defense remains popular due to the fact that two defensive tackles is seen as better to stop the run. The bigger the bodies along the defensive line, the better.

umm, you read it again?

...and then give it a rest.

Can you please stop that stupid discussion?

Both defenses have their advantages and disadvanteges for pass and run plays and it depend on the system used to play these defenses.

You need different players for those defenses, because of those systems.

You both seem to have an oppinion regarding the basic system YOU THINK IS RIGHT, fine.

At the end, there are 11 defenders on the field and it's the coordinator who says them what to do. The 4-3 was only one Buddy Ryan away to become the 46-Defense. Still, someone might say it is still a 4-3 defense.

From my point of view, make a new thread on the real life football forum and discuss the pros and cons as long as you like, in RZA there are no hights and weights and it is pure math.
