I would love to see NIU rebounding back to the strength they had under Doeren (now at NC State) and Rod Carey (now at Temple), but so far Hammock did not deliver in the same way. Fingers crossed he does turn things around.

Doeren was an excellent coach and he left so Carey was a guy they promoted because they were tired of their coaches being great then moving on. They expected him to stick around as he wasn't particularly strong. It was really surprising Temple gave him money to leave NIU and I'm guessing they are regretting it now. Hammock was the running back when I was attending and he's a true homer, but he doesn't look like head coaching material. More of a hype man assistant.
