I've got 2 Germans in my Youth Academy, and they both have the surname of Voigt. I know of the cyclist Jens Voigt ......... so is Voigt a common surname in Germany ?

I seem to remember that Jens Voigt comes from the (former) East Germany ... is Voigt a typical 'East German' name ?

quite common...not like Müller or Lehmann or Schmidt, but common...there are different ways to write it, like Voigt, Vogt, Vocht...

Yeah, or Berti Vogts, our nowadays useless football coach that helped Germany win the 1996 Football European Championships.

I'm trying to remember who did Germany beat in the Semi-finale?

Germany can't boast about anything to do with football. They allowed Emile Heskey to score past them

Ask Gareth Southgate, he should know for which team he played while he kicked the last penalty shot into Andreas Köpkes arms.
Little hint, the asked for country has a tratition to loose in penalty kicking.

He was allowed to, cause a whole country needed a morale boost, after Didi Hamann scored the last goal in good old wembley!

BTW: It wasn't neither fair play, nor gentlemanlike not to name that bridge to the new stadium "Didi-Hamann-Bridge". It was a legal voting an he won!

when Hamann scored the goal , the English fans all got to their feet and started singing "Stand up if you won the war, stand up if you won the war" ..... they all thought this was hilarious ...... however, they were somewhat stunned when , in perfect English and to the same tune, the German fans started singing "You're shit and you know you are, you're shit and you know you are" !!

Who says that the Germans have no sense of humour
