Ahead of tonight's Champ of Champs game for the Oxford Bulls against OrangeCrush we caught up with Bulls RB Darnell Simmonds and asked a few questions:
Q:Hi, Darnell. So, OrangeCrush tonight and you've got particular reason to want to do well?
A:Yes for sure. I was drafted by OrangeCrush in S37. But it soon became clear that with the talent they have playing time was going to be very limited. And when the Bulls came in for me I had to make a choice between staying and fighting for some playing time, or moving on. It wasn't an easy decision, but here I am.
Q:And how have things been at the Bulls?
A:It's been great. Coach is really building something here very quickly. We've come so far so fast. To win the Superbowl and so set up this meeting was unbelievable.
Q:What do you think the Bulls strengths are?
A:We've got an amazing team spirit going here. We all play for each other. We might not be the most talented, but we are a team. We've got a good mix of draft picks from other teams like me, and some of our own youngsters coming through. We're mostly young guys so hopefully plenty of time to improve even more.
Q:What about yourself, where do you see improvement coming?
A:I can definitely improve my ball handling, I've fumbled a few too easily. I just need to keep my head down, do what the coaches say and hopefully I'll keep improving.
Q:What are your expectations for the game tonight?
A:Well it's gonna be tough. They are a truly great team. Ranked 2. We will give it our best, but the odds are against us. We've had some great performances when everyone is predicting a 'safe' win for our opponents, just losing out a number of times. That gives us hope that we can always put in a good performance. If we cut out some of the silly mistakes we make from time to time, I'd like to think we can keep it close, and then who knows?
