Oh man, I just saw, the season is no longer in synch with the bowls.
In the past it was - regular season end / rivalry week - Championship games - Army-Navy - First bowl games For each a weekend or at least some time between the games, so I could write previews and reviews. This season, the 1st (and only) bowl game is on the same date as Army-Navy and I did forget so far the preview, since I expected the bowls to start in next week. I did not check the specific dates. I will post the preview tomorrow for the 1st bowl. |

ATTENTION! I did add the 1st set of bowls to the already posted blog entry of Army-Navy, since the 1st bowl starts on the same day as Army-Navy.
Sorry for that. |

So we are in risk to rename history related stuff like a rose bowl or sugar bowl to "insert huge company here" bowl? A shame ...

Yes, that can happen, but many of those old traditional bowls know they have a brand on their own, so they sell it like '... presented by [enter dickhead-company here] Names lost (even likely only temporary) are so far (I leave out already as sponsored bowls started bowls, like the former Quick Lane Bowl): - Camellia Bowl (exists since 2014, last time named that way 2023 - St. Petersburg Bowl (exists since 2008, renamed without the location name for 2010 to 2013, back to the location name for 2014 to 2016, officially renamed Gasparilla Bowl since 2017 and has that in the name since), likely for a long time not coming back - Humanitarian Bowl (exists since 1997, renamed without the location name for 2004 to 2006, since 2011 renamed to Famous Idaho Potato Bowl) - Copper Bowl (exists since 1989, renamed without the original brand from 1997 to 2013, then renamed to Cactus Bowl with sponsor afilliation inside the name 2014 (game was in January 2015) to 2017, since then just sponsor naming) - Mobile Alabama Bowl (exists since 1999, dropped the name since 2001 and since then just sponsor named) - Fort Worth (exists since 2003, renamed to Armed Forces Bowl in 2006), likely for a long time not coming back - Birmingham Bowl (exists since 2006, started as concept under that name, came to live directly as sponsored name bowl and got that concept name back in 2015 and has it since then, so a positive development) - Congressional Bowl (exists since 2008, started as concept under that name, came to live directly as sponsored name bowl and got renamed in 2010 and stays under that name since) - Independence Bowl (exists since 1976, got a sponsor only name in 2013, and returned to the old name in 2014, of course always with some affiliate sponsor in it) - Hall of Fame Bowl (existed from 1977, was renamed in 1986 in All-American Bowl and defunct after 1990, the Hall of Fame Bowl as brand was give to a NEW bowl 1986 (when the old bowl was rebranded) in a different city, renamed 1996 to sponsor only and is it since then) - Tangerine Bowl (exists since 1947, renamed in 1983 to Citrus Bowl, sponsor only from 2003 to 2014, since then again Citrus Bowl. There was a NEW Tangerine Bowl from 2001 to 2003) - Gator Bowl (exists since 1946, sponsor only in 2014 to 2017, since then again Gator Bowl with affiliate sponsor) - Heart of Dallas Bowl (exists since 2011, started 1st as sponsor only bowl, was renamed Heart of Dallas Bowl in 2013 to 2017, renamed against to First Responder Bowl since then. - Bahamas Bowl (exists since 2014, had to move to main land and got a sponsor only name in 2023). - Peach Bowl (exists since 1968, got a sponsor only name from 2006 to 2013) As you can see, the virus did spread already heavily. |
