Also, the difference between teams player builds is important. If your opponent is stronger, faster, more agile, and has higher skills then your defensive formation choice is not enough.

I know that is an obvious statement but I wanted to further illustrate that there are many factors that affect each play.

On the trait Sure Tackler, it says "It doesn't matter how you stop him, as long as you stop him. This Ability gives a 5% chance to tackle the ball carrier." My question is, is the opposing teams QB considered a "ball carrier" on pass plays? Will this then increase a defensive ends chance of sack if the player has this trait? Thanks!

Working through this thread I stumbled across this:
ausonny wrote:
From the announcement of the punt teams:

The Punting unit consists of a Punter, a Fullback to protect the Punter, 2 Gunners (left/right), 2 TE (left/right) and a complete O-Line.

The Punt Returning unit is kind of an 4-3-3-1 formation. It consists of 4 Linemen (DT and DE, left/right each), 1 MLB, 2 OLB (left/right), 2 CB (left/right), 1 Strong Safety and 1 Punt-Returner (KR).

I understand that the first unit is what I define in the depth chart under "STBL" while the latter is the group defined in "STT", yes?

And another question, since I'm experimenting with the playbook (and fail more than not at the moment ): Is it right that the learning defense not only "remembers" a certain formation linked to a certain down, but also the position on the "field"?

E. g. I rush from I-Formation on first Down at my own 25-Yard-Line, but pass from I-Formation on first Down at the 50. Will the Defense have learned the field position afterwards? I have the feeling that it does, since my defense reacted to a rush with a rushing defense, although the PB says "prefer pass"... and it was the first play of that particular formation in the second half

No. The STBL is the Punt Returning unit which consist the KR. The STT is the Punt Unit/ Kickoff which consist with the G, K/P.

No. Most of the times, the defence switches to rush or pass, after 3 attempts. So if you prefer rush, and your opponent passes 3 times in a row, then the defence switches to pass play. It depends on what did you set them to do. For example, if you don't have defence set for each quarter on a particular formation, then they will switch like crazy, sometimes after 2 plays.

Perhaps you had 2-3 rushing plays from that particular formation in the first half, so the defence switched to rush defence. Did you had the formation set on that particular quarter/half?

Allright, thanks

No, as a matter of fact I only had passing plays from this particular formation in the first half, and my defense is set for situations/field position, not quarters. Which makes it even weirder.

And even if: I read in Jack6's Guide that the defense resets at half time to the settings that are defined in the playbook, maybe "learn" a bit faster in the second half... so it should have defended pass first. It's no big deal, but it confuses me a little

Now that I wanted to set my depth chart right I'm still unsure: "STBL" stands for "Special Teams BLocker" and "STT" is "Special Teams Tackle", right? That lead me to thinks, since the above cited text says "Punting unit consists of TE and a complete O-Line", that the players knowing to block in my team are in the punting unit. And "The Punt Returning unit consists of MLB, OLB, CB, SS and 4 DLinemen", all adept to tackle, should be in the group of STT

And "The Punt Returning unit consists of MLB, OLB, CB, SS and 4 DLinemen", all adept to tackle, should be in the group of STT

Example:
I have in the depth chart for STBL in this precise order:
KR, FB, TE, OL, OL, OL, OL, OL, TE, FB, KR
(KR-L, FB-Ro, TE-Ro, OL(Ri,Ri,M,Li,Li), TE-Lo, FB-Lo, KR-R where L-Left, R-right, M-middle, o-outside, i-inside)
If you watch carefully in the Gamecenter you can see this formation only when the other teams Kickoff.
And for STT i have in this precise order:
G, CB, SF, LB, DL, K, DL, LB, SF, CB, G
(So with this i have G-L, CB-Lo, SF-Lo, LB-Li, DL-Li, K, DL-Ri, LB-Ri, SF-Ro, CB-Ro, G-R where L-left, R-right, o-outside, i-inside)
If you watch carefully in the Gamecenter you can see this formation only when you Kickoff.

Whenever you or your opponent is punting, these Special Teams don't appear.
