Love the blog. As an ND fan, Army ND was not played in South Bend, it was a neutral site game at Yankee stadium in New York City. I'll admit that after the NIU loss I thought the season was beyond over, but after stacking up big wins ND absolutely has a top 12 resume. Resume of course is different then Vegas odds, which probably would put them outside the top 12, but the sport isn't run by Vegas (thankfully), it's based on wins and losses on the field.

Thanks for the hint, I did overlook the neutral site. And thanks for the feedback. Rivalry week is online |

So how well does Ryan Day & Ohio State need to do in the college football playoffs to save his job?

Steve SD Blitz I think Ryan Day is as save as it can be in college football and I don't think Ohio State will pull an 'Pelini' on Day in the near future. His record is strong, just not THAT strong Buckeyes fans would like to have it, but I think even the dumpest AD will understand that it's very hard to cash in every season a National Championship, and the circumstances do get tougher and tougher. Remember, Jimmy H at Michigan needed 9! seasons to win a single National Championship and Day is in year 6 and they are still in contention. I don't think the team will make it all the way to the final, but depended on the matchups they will make it to halffinal likely. We will see. It's funny to see, how now the conferences do line up and say 'we deserve 3 spots' - 'no, we deserve 4 or whatever'. |

Interesting, the ESPN-guys think Ryan Day IS in deep trouble and he WILL be fired, if not making a deep run in the playoffs.
What would that mean? They start in Round 1, Ohio State likely at home. ESPN-guys say, lose and you are out. Then, if they win, they meat one of the 4 bye-week, teams, which will likely be the SEC Champ, the BIG10 Champ, the ACC Champ and the MWC-Champ. Likely the would play either the SEC Champ or the BIG10 Champ, since they will be #1 or #2. And then as loss, which is not unlikely, means Day get fired? ESPN things very likely yes, I think no. For me, DEEP means at least Semifinals, but for that they should have beaten at least a very tough team. Then Day should be fine, but right now I don't see the team in that form, after last weeks performance. I also learned the AD of Ohio State is the same, who did fire Jimbo Fischer at A&M. Hmmmm. Maybe Day gets a nice retirement cheque as Jimbo got. |

I did forget to add the ranks on the teams scheduled to play this weekend and added them now. Just a small detail.

Can't win a title, and can't even beat Michigan. It's insane to say, but those people would rather beat Michigan than win a title. Just ask them! |

Can't win a title, and can't even beat Michigan. It's insane to say, but those people would rather beat Michigan than win a title. Just ask them! I understand very well those fans and fans of other teams. It was funny to see, how some Alabama fans did rant over their new HC, when the team was beaten by Vanderbilt this season after some of the other losses. My theory is, people get used to success and they expect that to stay or even top that. So once you reach the top, there is not much room to wiggle. And those people do not get, that the next guy might be worse than the current. I really would like to ask Nebraska fans, whether the firing of Bo Pelini was a good thing, or the right thing, because at that time he was the devil, not winning the conference and more, but at least he won many games, went to a bowl and had te team on a good level, but no coach after him was even close that succuss. I think the fans like to have Day gone, yes. But I also think that the AD knows the business numbers and he also knows, that the next guy would need to do better and who would that be? Not saying there is none, but we are talking about either making a risky hire and hope for the best, or making a splash on those 5-10 potential next candidates to replace Day. Does the AD want to do that? I don't know. The playoff results will be essential, but my personal guess is, the team and Day get ONE more season to prove themselve (if not winning the National Championship, then a lot is forgotten) and that we will see Day also next season. But as said, that AD was the guy firing Fisher, so if he gets the approval of boosters and the board to stuff a lot of money in Days mouth to shut up and leave the campus, he will do that. With the pay the players approach coming in 2025 in a big way, I'm not sure, OSU would like to do all that now. |
