“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

We started this salute with a famous line from the Declaration of Independence, which was approved by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. With that, the original 13 colonies announced their separation from Great Britain. And since then the United States of America celebrates this day as its birthday. In the U.S., this day is celebrated with parades, picnics, sporting events, barbecues and fireworks.

It is great that many former foes have become friends and allies. We hope everyone has a chance to enjoy the day, and we wish everyone the very best around the world.

The American flag (sometimes called the Star-Spangled Banner) is a prominent symbol in all celebrations, as referenced in the National Anthem:
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
