What a ripper of a Supercup showdown we witnessed at Ford's Field, as the Diorite Lions clawed their way to a 34 to 31 victory over the Air Force Falcons, with a jaw-dropping atmosphere of 141,465 fans roaring in excitement. Sponsored by Suck It Up Flood Insurance - Total flood control, this match was as thrilling as an AFL final!
Right from the kickoff after a coin toss won by the Falcons, the entertainment began. The Falcons received and quickly went to work, only to be met with stout defense by the Lions. With formations ranging from Shotgun to I-formation, both teams showcased an array of tactics that would make a union coach proud!
After several back-and-forths, featuring some immense tackles and sacking of the quarterbacks—like the sensational effort from Jordan Kiser (MLB) against Rory Glengarry—each team struggled to find that initial breakthrough. But then, bam! The Lions lit up the scoreboard first with a magnificent touchdown play, followed by a successful PAT. The crowd erupted like a try being scored in the dying minutes of a close rugby match.
This wasn't just about scores though. We had some dramatic turnovers as well. A pivotal interception by Deangelo Wiggins (MLB) on the own 34 set the stage for a mighty Falcons comeback, putting them right in the red zone.
